The High School, 4-H Environmental Science Club is designed to educate students and the community on the environmental issues we face and most importantly to inspire ALL to get involved to make our world a better place. The purpose of the club is to spread the word and alter habits by offering simple solutions that lead to significant changes. The students recently launched a school-wide recycling program to encourage recycling. Currently, the club is recycling cell phones, inkjet cartridges, and paper. They developed a business relationship with a recycling company that picks up the school's recyclable materials and the club is reimbursed accordingly. They are able to use the proceeds to support service learning projects and educational field trips. Club members have done the following to make the recycling program a success. 1) Introduced and publicized the recycling program to the school through commercials, cartoon strips, and posters. 2) Made recycling boxes for various locations throughout the school. 3) Introduced the program to the Parent Liaison and helped coordinate a workshop that educated parents and the community on the recycling program and how they could get involved. These youth are compassionate, knowledgeable, and stewards of their environment that are dedicated to helping other people and our world. At an early age they are demonstrating that you can stand up to problems that you are concerned about and get involved to enact change. This 4-H club and program gives young people the skills needed to become leaders and they learn key strategies on how to make a real difference in their communities.

A while back I remember thinking, how can I make a difference in my community? Little did I know there were others like me. So, we got together and found the common thread between us. We created our own organization known as Inspiring Communities Unconditionally. I.C.U is a group of dedicated citizens who have committed their time and talents toward an event to create and inspire a great passion for reading among children. In partnership with Scholastic Books, our annual event is known as "Spring into Reading". Proceeds from the 2-day fair will go to fill over 10,000 backpacks with books for children who are a part of the Summer Reading Club.

This is about my husband, his name is Rito and he is a awesome man! He is a Disabled Veteran and is legally blind in one eye. Rito gives back to the community we live in although he hurts everyday. He volunteers at the Meals for Wheels every week and also volunteers at the local soup kitchen every week. Sometimes he doesn't feel good and is in pain due to the car accident he was in (2008), but he still calls himself a Marine and mustards up the strenght to go and volunteer anyway. I love him so much for who he is as a person as well as a wonderful husband, father and grandpa. Thanks for reading this short message about my wonderful husband.

My good news is about Coach Lynn, Founder of Impact Athletics Track Team, an invitation-only track club with the single goal of "IMPACTING" the lives of "student-athletes" through enhancement of athleticism and imposing character traits necessary to succeed in life. Mother of one, mentor to many, Lynn gives tirelessly everyday to her athletes and their families. From school visits for kids whose grades are slacking to housing a troubled teen Lynn is always right there. Although due to medical conditions, Lynn is unable to have children of her own, she has played mother to more than 75 kids. Lynn is the mother, the tutor, the coach, the fundraiser, the friend to so many of metro-atlanta's inner city youth. Although Lynn recently lost her job at the Mayor's Office, however she never lost her drive to succeed and survive. Lynn is the just an all around wonderful person. She has been a blessing to us all. Lynn is my good news story

Over the past decade I have been working to promote the importance of the arts, especially language arts. Having a voice and making sure that everyone takes advantage of their opportunity to use it, is important to me. I began Conversations Book Club as a way of bringing people of all interests together to discuss books. To date we have hosted over 100 authors and hosted literary events across half the country. This just shows that we can all make a difference one person at a time.

Mr Thomas took me and my children out of a shelter in 2002. Unlike the other groups that help Mr Thomas uses his own money and time while being disabled from the fire department. Everyone he helps become homeowners no matter thier history. He helps homeless vets as well as thier families. While loosing his job as a fireman because of a on the job injury, i have seen him daily seek out woman and children to get them out of the shelters. A social worker told me he has taken 85 families permanantly out of the system and everyone independant since 1990. He will go into a neighborhood and remove the drug dealers prior to a family he helps moves in. You can find him teaching in the shelters and senior centers about cpr< child care and senior issues. Again this agel from God deserves some thank you. GOD Bless

I was terminated from my job May 2009. I began to use my unemployment benefits to fund the Million Books Project, a program I founded to provide books to children in the Philadelphia region as well as in Sierra Leone, West Africa, my country of birth. I have collected over 40,000 books, through various book drives. I have donated books to various community groups, schools and organizations. I have also started a ESL and literacy support program for African and Caribbean children in Philadelphia. All children are reading below grade level and are first generation immigrants. I volunteer and use my unemplyoment benefits to pay the two people that work with me on a part-time basis.
